Gems Girls Club

The name GEMS is an acronym which stands for Girls Everywhere
Meeting the Savior
. It clearly identifies the purpose for which this
ministry was created and the reason Covenant Christian
Reformed Church believes in this ministry.

GEMS Girls’ Club is a relationship building, club program created especially for girls in second through eighth grades. Every second Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 many fun and exciting things happen.

The purpose of our GEMS Girls’ Club is to bring girls into a living relationship with Jesus Christ. To help foster this all-important elationship between each girl and Christ, other relationships are nurtured as well - between girls and between girls and their counselor.

Girls in the clubs are organized into small groups with one
counselor and it is through these small groups, and the
interactions that take place in club that faith is nurtured and
developed, and long lasting friendships are made.

Cadet Boys Club

The Calvinist Cadet Corps is an independent youth ministry
organization whose purpose is to provide a program that will
enable churches to share Christ’s love with boys from their church
and community. The basis of the Calvinist Cadet Corps is the
Word of God.

The Calvinist Cadet Corps provides material and program support
for approximately 14,000 boys and 4,200 counselors in 642 clubs
located across Canada and the U.S.A. It also provides support for
over one thousand cadets and counselors in clubs throughout
Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, Africa and other
far reaches of the world.

Covenant Christian Reformed Church’s Cadet program is geared
for boys between the ages of 7 and 12 and we provide a varied
bi-weekly program of crafts, bible study, games and outings
including camping, hiking and other outdoor activities.

Youth Ministry at Covenant

Social events vary greatly during the year including bi-weekly
coffee houses where people just hang out, play games and get
to know each other better, gym nights, camping/canoeing trips,
bowling, the corn maze and many more.

Service opportunities also vary considerably with some being
focused specifically on serving the church community in practical
ways and others focused on getting involved with serving and
reaching out to our community.

Faith based - We desire youth to learn more about their faith,
who Jesus is and what difference He can make in their lives
through being involved in small groups where they can learn
about various topics in a fun and yet meaningful way.

The youth small group ministry is divided into 3 age brackets.
The Grade 7/8 group meets every 2nd Sunday night at Covenant
from 6:30-7:30pm. The Grade 9/10 and 11 and up groups meet
on Tuesday evenings for supper, worship and a small group
discussion time.

College and Careers Ministry

Sunday nights - College and Careers is a group for single young
adults (18-30ish) who get together every 2nd Sunday night from
8:00 to10:30pm for fun and games and also to explore what it
means to follow Christ.

Tuesday evenings - Many members of this group also get
together on Tuesday evenings at the church for supper, worship
and to meet with a small group to discuss a topic of interest with
the Church's Super Tuesday ministry.

Potlucks - Every 2nd week, we get together at the home of
one of the group to share a potluck meal, a Bible Study, and
some games.

Curious? Have questions about any of the above? New people
are always welcome to come out and join us!

Call Pastor Ken at (204) 667-1116.

Alpha

Alpha is a ten-week opportunity to explore the validity and
relevance of the Christian faith for our lives today. It is a practical
introduction to the basics of Christianity with loads of opportunity
for debate and discussion. The style of Alpha is informal, friendly
and non-pressured.

Alpha is enjoyed and appreciated as much by those who have
never set foot in a church as it is by those who once attended
and by the regular churchgoer. No matter what your background,
whether investigating Christianity for the first time or revisiting
your faith, participants get a lot out of an Alpha Course.

Each week people meet together for a meal, hear some great
music, listen to a talk on topics such as “Who is Jesus?”, “Why
Did Jesus Die?”, “How Can I be Sure of My Faith?”, and “Does
God Still Heal Today?” , followed by small group interaction. There is a day or weekend retreat midway through the course, which focuses on the person and work of the Holy Spirit.

We meet Tuesday evenings throughout the year.

Mens Breakfast

If you are a senior and would like to taste good food and enjoy
great fellowship…. This is the place to be!!!
After breakfast there is an opportunity to participate in a
discussion group where various topics are discussed.
Come as you are!! We meet Monday mornings at 8:30
throughout the fall and winter.

Seniors Fellowship

Are you a “senior” (55 years or older) who likes to get together
with other seniors for some fun, fellowship, and learning? There
is such a group of people at Covenant CRC!

Our basic philosophy is: Our life, created and redeemed by God,
is a great gift and needs to be celebrated! A team of seven
seniors organizes opportunities to play table games (Tuesday
mornings in the winter season), several lunches, teas, barbeques
in the summer, one annual dinner and bus tours. Often a speaker
or video will provide both enjoyment and pertinent information.

Come, join us in one, several, or all of these activities. You will
like what we do! And, in case you get sick, a couple people will
visit you and cheer you up with beautiful flowers!

Coffee Break

Coffee Break is a Wednesday morning Bible Study for women.
There is opportunity for getting to know one another and to learn
about what the Bible has to teach us.

Coffee Break starts at the end of September and goes to the end
of April. Women are asked to arrive at 9:30 for a time of
socializing and then from 10-11 AM a portion of scripture is
studied. Children aged 3-5 are invited to Story Hour for a Bible
story and craft and babies/toddlers are taken care of in the
nursery.

There is no charge for any of these activities.

Small Groups

Would you like to join a group of people who will become friends?
Do you ever feel that it would be comforting to have a core group
of people that you can confide in? Small Group are not about
Small Talk! In Small Groups we spend time together talking about
real issues that we feel are important to each other. We may
watch a video, read a book or study a part of the Bible. Each
group is different and there are a number of groups that you can
join that all meet at different times.

Besides the study time, generally Small Groups meet by sharing a
meal together and also having just plain fun together.

Stephen Ministry

It has been said that the essence of the Christian life is in caring
deeply for those around us. Caring is not just something we do
but something Christ does in and through us.

Stephen Ministry is a lay ministry that was initiated at Covenant
Christian Reformed Church in 2002. The focus of Stephen Ministry
is to assist people who are facing a crisis, or a life challenge in
their lives. At some point in time everyone faces a crisis - loss of a
loved one, hospitalization, transition from the workplace to
retirement, to name a few of the more common challenges. Still
others face the trauma of separation and divorce, or the news of
a devastating illness. During such critical times a Stephen
Minister is available to walk alongside the person and, if need be
with the family, and offer support.

Stephen ministers are caregivers not cure-givers - only God can
provide the cure. However, they will listen to the concerns a
person needs to share because it is in unburdening that healing
begins; they will provide encouragement; they will share
Scripture and prayer; they commit themselves to be there for the
care receiver.
